About Me, a Musical Biography

There was always music in my house as my Mom taught piano lessons out of the house during my childhood. My life as a musician started at age 9 when I began taking piano lessons from her. It did not take long before I started to compose my own music. At 15 my grandfather gave me an acoustic guitar and the electric bass followed a year later. For performance purposes I consider bass my primary instrument, but I play both bass and guitar interchangeably. During high school I was taught lessons by the world-renowned guitarist Chuck Pangburn. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, I also started playing the cello and lap steel.

In my time as a musician I have recorded many albums from a varied list of bands. Some of the highlights include psychedelic prog masters Miniver Cheevy's "Earth to Earth" (1993), power pop darlings Echo Juliet's "Killing Zoë" (1995), eclectic groove rockers 3 Penny Opera's "Ten Pieces for Voice, Strings, and Percussion" (1999) and "Last Year's Boy" (2002), and acoustic alternative proggers Protean Mean's "Discovery of the West" (2006) and "Courses for Foxes" (2009). I have also released four solo albums including "Square One" (2005) and my most recent effort "Daydream" (2016). For a full discogaphy see this link (pdf).

I believe in the fundamental honesty of music and its ability to improve the lives of all listeners. Music can run the full range of emotions and speak in a language more expressive than any other. There are no rules in music, other than honesty and integrity. It's natural for me to go from the deep grooves of James Brown to the intricate and powerful guitar solos of Iron Maiden, or from the peerless melodies of The Beatles to the full and open soundscapes of Pink Floyd.

  • "...earth to earth, where have you been..."
  • "...if you were like Bill then you might..."
  • "...morning will greet me, clad in dreary gray..."
  • "...Then a breeze sets the leaves and the light to dancing..."
  • "...be still said the sculptor to the muse..."
